Tie a yellow ribbon for the Miami Five

News from Cuba | Wednesday, 4 September 2013

Rene Gonzalez, the first of the Miami Five to be released and return home to Cuba has asked his people to fill the island with yellow ribbons on 12 September, the fifteenth anniversary of their arrests.

"My desire is that on September 12 yellow ribbons will appear in trees, on balconies, on people's arms, on their pets or however they want to display it. That way this expression will make it impossible for visitors and the foreign media to ignore the fact that the Cuban people are still waiting for four of their sons who are imprisoned in the United States."

A group of Cuban singers including Silvio Rodriguez have recorded a version of the north american song, 'Tie a yellow ribbon round the old oak tree' to mark the occasion with a video featuring family photos and videos of the families of the Miami Five.
