I Love Cuba Cabaret, Saturday February 15th

I Love CUBA cabaret 2003

A wonderful night

Comedian Mark Thomas and playwright Harold Pinter are just two of the distinguished guests coming along for this year’s I Love CUBA cabaret in London on Saturday 15th February 2003.

Mark’s hard hitting and hilarious stand up routines highlight the injustices of the world in a way that informs and entertains. As a recent Guardian review put it “ It's not art, it's activism - but, in Thomas's hands, it's as gripping as any live performance you'll see.”

Harold Pinter’s 30 odd plays including The Birthday Party, The Caretaker, and The Homecoming more than prove him to be a modern literary giant. It is a unique opportunity and an honour for CSC to have Britain’s greatest living playwright on stage at this year’s cabaret.

This year we have a truly wonderful line up of top names from the comedy circuit. ‘John Hegley and friend’ will be bringing an intriguing special musical set. Comedian Simon Munnery brings his anarchic creation Alan Parker – Urban Warrior for a rare appearance. There is great musical comedy from Steve Gribben and excellent stand up from Ivor Dembina and John Ryan.

Top ten piece band, Merengada, will provide the latin musical rhythms for the night. Their CD was described as world album of the week in the Guardian. ‘Tight and furious’ is the description that sums up Merengada, probably the best exponents of salsa and merengue on the circuit today. Bring your dancing shoes !

Cuban sounds will continue into the night with the best of Havana’s latest hits from the DJs of Club Clandestino with special guest DJ, the legendary Dave Hucker.

As ever a whole host of special guests will be appearing on this now established night that has always sold out well in advance.

The I Love CUBA cabaret is definitely an eclectic mix of comedy, music and politics, yet it never fails to please the crowds who come back each year. Be sure to book early. Remember tickets are £16/£12 in advance, available from CSC on 020 7263 6452.

This year the event is sponsored by Havana Club Rum ensuring the night will have that truly authentic Cuban flavour.

This year we are celebrating the record United Nations vote by 173 countries against the US blockade. The cabaret is your chance to join with the Cubans in a night of solidarity and fun.

Special early booking offer for CSC members and friends. Book on or before 4th February and tickets will be just £15/£10 unwaged.
