Cuba50 - Celebrating Cuban Culture

Spring 2008

CUBA50 is coming, and it provides a fantastic opportunity to showcase the world class range of Cuban culture and sport, as well as a chance for CSC members to get involved encouraging and supporting events in your area.

The Cuba50 Cultural Festival will incorporate all aspects of the country’s culture: from world class touring music and dance, to national and regional theatres, galleries and exhibitions. Cuba50 will be out there next Spring offering something for everyone, from performances to schools workshops, to seminars and film festivals. Alongside sporting links to the Olympiad and sustainable living initiatives, this will be the biggest celebration ever of Cuban culture, of art, music, education, dance, film, photography and theatre - all culminating in a one day fiesta in early summer.

Events will be taking place across the country, including Cuban films featuring in festivals across the country; theatre, in a specially commissioned series of readings and performances of Cuban drama; seminars and talks from leading cultural commentators; art and photography exhibitions in some of London’s leading galleries; and the fantastic La Linea festival, which in 2009 will take a Cuban theme, featuring some of the world’s best musicians!

Alongside these, Cuba50 encourages regional and local groups to set up their own events, if you have ideas for performances, exhibitions, dance groups or educational talks in your area - we want to hear from you.

From late April, the Cuba50 website will go live, with information about events, and weekly updates, and for you to add your local events; plus a regular e-mail bulletin that you can subscribe to, to find out the latest news and ensure celebrations and events in your area are publicised.

This is your chance to be part of the biggest festival of Cuban culture ever featuring some of the country’s brightest talents in a dazzling celebration of Cuba’s rich artistic, musical and cultural heritage. Get in touch and get involved - Cuba50!
