Sixty years ago, Cuba sent its first humanitarian medical brigade abroad to help Chile in the aftermath of an earthquake. Since then more than 400,000 Cuban’s have taken part in medical missions to 164 countries. Cuba’s internationalism and resistance in the face of 60 years of blockade by the United State’s has inspired peopled around the world.

As the Cuban Friendship Institute (ICAP) celebrates its 60th anniversary we speak to its president, and one of the Miami Five, Fernando González, jailed for 15 years trying to prevent terrorist attacks against Cuba, about why international solidarity is important.

We also hear from special guests, Jeremy Corbyn MP and Gail Walker, Director of IFCO/Pastors for Peace on how Cuban internationalism shows what is possible when nations chose to cooperate for the benefit of humanity and the importance of ending the US blockade once and for all.
