CSC Brighton presents Chile 50, evening of solidarity and live music

Commemorate the 50th anniversary of Pinochet’s coup in Chile with CSC Brighton:

50 years ago in Chile, Salvador Allende, the democratically elected Socialist President of Chile died in a military coup led by General Pinochet who ushered in a brutal and repressive regime that ruled Chile for 17 years. During his reign of terror, he tortured and killed thousands of his political opponents and forced over 200,000 people into exile around the world.
Film: “The Battle of Chile”, screening of excerpts from the documentary of the military overthrow.
Dr Francisco Dominguez, Chilean exile, one of the foremost authorities on Latin America and Emeritus Professor of Latin American Studies at Middlesex University on the background to the coup and its significance today.
Diego Baeza Paris based Chilean guitarist, composer and singer who has played internationally. He will be playing classic songs from Chile by Victor Jara, Silvio Rodriguez and Mercedes Sosa along with some original compositions.
