Cuba Vive! End the blockade on education and health (NEU Conference fringe meeting)

Bayview Suite, Bournemouth International Centre

Thursday, 4 April 2024, 5:45pm

PLEASE NOTE, THIS EVENT IS ONLY OPEN TO CONFERENCE DELEGATES, GUESTS AND VISITORS.

The US blockade is now well into its seventh decade. Cuban students and teachers are suffering the brunt of these cruel sanctions, which cause shortages in all areas of Cuban life. Last year’s amazing Viva la Educación appeal successfully raised over £100,000 to send two forty foot containers full of educational aid to the island, with the help of NEU districts from across the country. NEU delegates on the 2023 Education Study Tour were able to see first hand the impact of the blockade on education in Cuba and how the Viva la Educación appeal and the solidarity shown by NEU members have made a real difference.

This meeting will hear a report back from delegates on the 2023 Education Study Tour, hear from representatives of the Cuban Education Union and introduce Cuba Vive, our urgent new appeal to send life-saving medical aid to Cuba. Come along to hear about Cuba’s achievements as a result of its commitment to education for all, the challenges of teaching under a blockade, why solidarity is vital and what you can do to help.
