Latin America Conference 2025
Hamilton House, Mabledon Place, London, WC1H 9BB
Saturday, 8 February 2025, 10:00am
Tickets are now on sale for the 19th annual Latin America Conference which takes place on Saturday 8 February at Hamilton House, London. The conference is the biggest of its kind in Europe, bringing together academics, trade unionists, politicians, and activists from the UK, Europe and Latin America. The event also features films from the region and stalls from UK campaign groups, giving delegates the chance to network and become more actively involved in solidarity.
A full list of speakers will be updated on the CSC and Latin America Conference websites nearer the time but to give a flavour of what to expect, previous speakers include Tariq Ali, Noam Chomsky, Dr Aleida Guevara, Jeremy Corbyn MP, Ken Loach, Alberto Juantorena, Walter Sandino, Robin Blackburn, Prof Ernesto Laclau, Frances O’Grady, and Mariela Castro. This year’s conference saw more than 300 delegates and 50 speakers take part in an inspiring and informative day of plenaries and seminars .
As the conference takes place shortly after the inauguration of the new US president, there will also be opportunities to discuss the likely impact of a Harris or Trump administration, and what difference, if any, it will make to US policy in the region. Although more than 200 years have passed since the Monroe Doctrine, which sought US hegemony over the countries it considered in its ‘backyard’, the people of Latin America are still engaged in struggle to free themselves from the influence of US imperialism and intervention in their sovereign affairs.
Cuba, Nicaragua and Venezuela bear the brunt of US meddling and aggression and are at the vanguard of regional movements to oppose it. February 2025 marks 23 years of the US blockade of Cuba, and three seminars will explore in more depth how Cuba resists and survives in the face of the longest campaign of economic warfare waged against a country in history.
Join us at Latin America 2025 and together lets make another successful event which will help build, empower and shape the future work of the solidarity movement in Britain.
Tickets for the 2024 conference sold out two weeks in advance so book yours early to avoid disappointment.
