UK donates £250, 000 to hurricane relief

Ministers have revealed in Parliamentary answers that the UK Government has committed £250,000 of humanitarian funding to Cuba in the wake of the recent devastating hurricanes At the same time the Government has allocated £6million of aid to Haiti. Cuba was left battered with damage estimated in the region of $5billion and sadly 7 people died as a result of Hurricane Ike. Internationally the Spanish Government has responded by committing to providing $33million in aid. South Africa, China and Venezuela are amongst other countries that have also provided aid for rebuilding efforts.
The EU and Cuba have signed an agreement calling for EU member states to send hurricane relief funding to Cuba. The EU will send $2.6million in emergency aid with a further $38.9million earmarked for next year.
