While tendency in the world is that of health professionals turning into money-producing machines, in Cuba they're full of love, stated on Thursday Margaret Chan, director of the World Health Organization (WHO).

During a meeting at the Central Unit of Medical Cooperation (UCCM) with a group of voluntary workers that will soon travel to Venezuela and Gambia, Chan stressed: by way of cooperation, you get to several nations and I'm impressed by the work you carry out for the good of mankind.

This is my second visit to Havana, and every time I come I cry for your love, commitment and faithfulness to the mission of serving others, the director of that international organization of the United Nations told Public Health Minister Roberto Morales and Deputy Public Health Minister Marcia Cobas.

Yiliam Jimenez, director of the UCCM, explained that, at present, Cuba is offering services in 66 nations with almost 39,000 voluntary workers, over 15,000 of them physicians.

Accompanied by Mirta Roses, director of the Pan-American Health Organization and other WHO executives, Dr. Chan also visited the Antonio Pulido policlinic at Havana's La Lisa municipality.

Chan, the deputy director general of the WHO, the six regional directors of that UN organization for Africa, the Americas, eastern Mediterranean, Europe, south eastern Asia and the western Pacific, as well as other officials, carried out this week on the island, and for the first time, an Internal Meeting of the Global Group of Policies of the WHO.

On Friday, the WHO director and her accompanying delegation will participate in the 8th National Congress on Geriatrics and Gerontology, which will wind up at the capital's Convention Center with the attendance of some 300 delegates from a dozen countries, who held exchanges of experiences aimed at achieving a more active, productive and happy aging
