Hurricane Sandy - Cuba Solidarity supporters from every corner of England, Scotland, Wales and Ireland donate to relief effort

The Cuba Solidarity Campaign has so far managed to collect over £11,000 to send to Cuba to help with the relief effort following the devastation wreaked by Hurricane Sandy in October.

The donations have come from individuals and organisations from far and wide with many sending in cheques with heartfelt messages of solidarity for the Cuban people. CSC groups including Cymru-Cuba Wales, Manchester, Nottingham, Oxford, Derby, Leeds and Birmingham have sent in large donations with monies being raised in many ways. Trade union branches and regions have also been supporting the fundraising appeal. There was a great collection of over £700 from attenders at the recent Latin America Conference and Scottish Medical Aid for Cuba gave an emergency gift.

Kenia Serrano Puig, President of ICAP, in a letter of thanks received by CSC expressed her sincerest appreciation, on behalf of ICAP and the Cuban people

“Rest assured that these funds will be an important contribution to all the works that are being undertaken in the construction or reconstruction of houses seriously damaged as well as in the recovery programmes in the agricultural sector. Please, convey our thanks to the many individuals, Trade Unions and other British organisations that have so generously donated to this fund.”

CSC will continue to collect donations and transfer the funds quickly to Cuba. A full report will be published in the January edition of Cuba Si magazine.
