The Cuba Solidarity Campaign’s open letter calling for the US blockade to be lifted to help Cuba fight the coronavirus at home and abroad has now been signed by over 13,000 people from 126 different countries around the world.
Reports from numerous news outlets from around the Caribbean and Latin America including TeleSur and Canal Caribe are highlighting the success of the Cuba Solidarity Campaigns recent open letter.
The global response to the acts inspirational internationalism from Cuba during the coronavirus outbreak has been praised by many, including former Leader of the Labour Party in the UK, Jeremy Corbyn MP, and UK Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, Dominic Raab.
Michelle Bachelet, the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, has demanded the suspension of US sanctions against Cuba in light of the difficulties faced around the world due to the Covid-19 outbreak. She said these measures “should be attenuated or suspended' as they limit the nations ability to provide medical care and increase the risk.”
It is important now more than ever, as the world fights the coronavirus pandemic, to fight for the end of the 60-year long US blockade of Cuba and stand in solidarity with Cuba.
Thousands of messages of solidarity have been pouring in from around the world.
From the USA, Martin said, “We are in this together, all nations, all people.”
A message sent from Denmark said, “End this unjust blockade.”
David from Mexico sent, “Cuba is showing the world a different internationalism - the one we wish to construct.”
