Many people and authorities have spoken out loud and clear in recent hours against the recent measures taken by the United States government, which seek to intimidate this bastion of solidarity: our medical collaboration. And they have done so because, as Fidel said, our country is "capable of sending the necessary doctors to the darkest corners of the world. Doctors, not bombs, doctors, not smart weapons."
Trinidad and Tobago Prime Minister Keith Rowley commented on visa restrictions to the United States due to Cuban medical cooperation. "I just returned from California, and if I never return there in my life, I would make sure that the sovereignty of Trinidad and Tobago is known by its people and respected by all," he said, after noting that his country has relied heavily on Cuban specialists.
"Does anyone expect that, because I want to keep my (US) visa, I'm going to let 60 poor, working-class people die? That will never happen," commented a sincere friend of Cuba, the Prime Minister of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Ralph Gonsalves, referring to the presence of doctors at that nation's Medical and Diagnostic Center, where Cuban doctors save dozens of lives every day.
Likewise, Grenada's Minister of Foreign Affairs, Joseph Andall, was emphatic in emphasizing that: "We not only have a legal obligation, but also a moral and ethical obligation to support the Cuban people; our health infrastructure will collapse without Cuba's generous intervention, so we must always adopt a principled stance."
He also emphasized that the largest island in the Caribbean remains a trusted friend and partner not only of Grenada and the Caribbean, but of the entire world. "When the COVID-19 pandemic broke out, Cuban doctors came to Italy to provide services; I didn't hear anyone talk about human trafficking or anything like that," he added.
Addressing the US government's contempt for the people of the South, Antigua
and Barbuda Prime Minister Gaston Browne said the United States should treat the Caribbean with "a certain degree" of respect instead of threatening the region's countries over the survival of their health care systems.
With this measure promoted by the disgraceful United States Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, which seeks to restrict visas to third countries where Cuban medical missions exist, they seek to wipe out the Cuban Revolution and its people.
This was also acknowledged by the Union of Cuban Residents in Argentina, who also asserted that these violative and criminal actions are denying the right to life of citizens of many countries.
