Fireworks at the annual Christmas Parrandas in Remedios, Cuba
As 2025 draws to a close, the Cuba Solidarity Campaign team sends our warmest wishes to all our friends and supporters. We hope you are able to enjoy a peaceful and restful break, and we thank you sincerely for the solidarity, commitment and practical support you have shown to Cuba and to CSC throughout the past year.
The last year has been one of the most challenging periods Cuba has faced in recent times. As we look ahead, it is clear that the coming months are critical. The return of a Trump administration in 2025 has brought renewed threats, with key White House appointments openly hostile to Cuba. Ongoing attacks on Venezuela threaten Cuba too. While claiming to act in the interests of the Cuban people, their agenda is clear: to intensify the blockade, promote destabilisation on the island, and further restrict the ability of solidarity organisations to visit Cuba and deliver much-needed material aid.
Yet Cuba’s history shows us that pressure and aggression have never broken the will of its people. For more than 65 years, Cubans have defended their sovereignty, their Revolution and their right to self-determination. As we move into 2026, the international solidarity movement must take inspiration from this resilience, strengthening our collective efforts and responding to renewed attacks with greater unity, determination and resolve.
Thank you for standing with Cuba. Your solidarity matters now more than ever.
Campaign highlights in 2025
In February Aleida Guevara, Che’s daughter, spoke to hundreds at meetings across the UK, many organised jointly with the Palestine Solidarity Campaign to draw attention to the historic solidarity between the two countries and shared struggles against imperialism. Aleida spoke alongside Vijay Prashad and others at another packed Latin America conference.
In addition to the many regional and branch meetings that CSC staff and executive members speak at every month, we also had a busy year running stalls and fringe meetings at conferences and events including the NEU, TUC Black Workers, GMB, UNISON, Unite, TUC, Labour Party and North West rally, Your Party, Tolpuddle Festival and more.
In March Screen Cuba returned bigger and better for its second year with increased screenings and new cinemas in and outside London taking part. Details of the 2026 film festival will soon be available and open for bookings.
In May delegates from across the trade union movement took part in our Young Trade Unionists’ May Day Brigade and delegations from ASLEF and POA joined CSC’s May Day Tour. We’re now taking bookings for 2026 – check out the tours page for more details and how to book.
In June the RMT hosted a wonderful celebration of trade union internationalism at their annual Garden Party raising thousands of pounds for the Cuba Vive Medical Aid Appeal. In September, we joined thousands of others on the National Demonstration against Trump’s state visit and CSC Chair Kevin Courtney addressed the crowd in central London.
Climate change is exposing Cuba to an increasing number of tropical storms and in October Hurricane Melissa devastated eastern provinces. CSC immediately launched an appeal and thanks to your generosity, 23 tonnes of powdered milk are already en route to provide nutritional support for children, pregnant women and the elderly.
As Cuba continues to battle extreme shortages in its health system, we are proud to say the Cuba Vive Medical Aid Appeal is close to achieving our 2025 fundraising target of £250,000. A fifth container of life-saving medical supplies is currently en route – making it six consignments of aid worth in excess of £1 million sent in the last 12 months. The appeal will continue fundraising and sending aid throughout 2026 and you can find out more and donate at www.cubavive.org.uk.
Our work would not be possible without the dedication and support of our members, local groups and supporters: taking actions, organising and attending events, donating, and sharing our activities on social media. ¡Muchas gracias a todos!
Thank you also to everyone who reads this update and has followed our work through the year. If you are not already a member of CSC, please consider joining here.
If you are a member, and are in a position to, please donate to help us build our work in 2026.
We wish you and your loved ones a peaceful and Happy New Year and all the best for 2026.
