Investigators find evidence of torture

Havana, July 14 (AIN) Military Investigators brought to light more evidence showing that detainees at the US military base in Guantanamo Bay have been subjected to outrageous mistreatment, said a member of the US Senate Armed Forces Commission.

Senator Carl Levin (D) said the FBI investigation into reports of prisoner abuse concluded that the prisoners were mistreated to extract intelligence information, Granma daily reported on Thursday.

The senator said the numerous cases of abuse were not the spontaneous action of low-ranking military police.

The US Naval Base at Guantanamo occupies a portion of the island's territory against the will of the people and government of Cuba.
