Conference winds up in Havana with pledge of support
Havana, Dec 4 (Prensa Latina) The 15th Congress of the World Federation of Trade Unions wound up Sunday in this capital, after debating the role of the international working class faced with the neoliberal globalization's challenges.
Attendees at Havana's International Conference Center repeatedly called for unity, proposed inter-union alliances and analyzed alternatives to join farmers, indigenous groups and young people, women and other marginalized sectors to the working family.
Privatizations, denial of the right to strike, social assistance cuts and union prohibition were issues related to the mentioned economic model.
Unionists expressed solidarity with the case of five Cubans unfairly imprisoned in US, promising to carry out activities for their release.
Over 500 delegates from 75 countries, representing 248 unions from 72 countries, attended the forum.
