Seasonal message from the five prisoners

Five Cuban patriots serving long prison terms in the United States for crimes they did not commit, have written the following letter of thanks to all those in the UK who have suported their struggle for justice:

Dear Brothers and Sisters in the UK,

Thank you very much for all you have done, for all you are doing, and for all you will do for our Motherland Cuba and for our cause.

This New Year 2007 will be crucial for our cause and your solidarity and support will be decisive for our freedom.

Best wishes in 2007!

Merry Christmas!

Happy New Year!

We love you!

Please send Xmas cards to the Miami Five

This December marks the fifth anniversary of their sentencing on spurious charges ranging from failure to disclose themselves as foreign agents to conspiracy to commit espionage and even murder. They are presently serving between fifteen years and double life in prisons scattered across the US with severely restricted family visits.

It is important that pressure is kept up in bringing the case to public attention following the reinstatement of their sentences and the rejection of the call for a new trial by all twelve judges of the 11th Circuit Court of Appeals in Atlanta, Georgia on 9th August 2006. Three judges of the same court who heard the original appeal had decided in favour of the Five just a year earlier on the grounds that they could not have received a fair hearing in the hostile and prejudicial climate of Miami.

Two of these judges are now considering nine remaining issues as recommended by the full court and have asked both the defence and the prosecution for supplementary information. Should they find in favour of the Five again the prosecution could refer the case once more to all twelve judges. If that fails the defence will then have the possibility of recourse to the Supreme Court.

CSC is asking that Christmas cards should be sent to the Miami Five at the addresses below.

You can also send protest Xmas cards to the following:

Condoleezza Rice, US Secretary of State, US Dept of State, 2201 C Street NW, Washington DC 20520

Mr Alberto Gonzalez, US Attorney General, US Dept of Justice, 950 Pennsylvania Avenue, NW Washington, DC 20530-0001.

The message should be simple calling for the freedom of the Five and should include their names, prisons and prison numbers.
