Now is an exciting time to be going to Cuba and the brigade gives a unique opportunity to speak to Cubans from all walks of life, see the reality of life under the ongoing US blockade, and learn about the country’s economic and social development.

Summer 2022 Solidarity Brigade will visit Playa Giron in Matanzas province, the site of the Bay of Pigs invasion, and Santa Clara’s memorial to Che Guevara.
As part of the international Jose Marti Brigade marking its 50th edition this year the group will visit the monument to national hero Jose Marti in Havana.

Summer 2022 brigade programme includes working in a rural area outside Havana alongside local farmers, as well as visits to museums and historical sites, local community projects and an environmental project, plus talks on the current challenges of the US blockade, the economy and international solidarity.

While in Matanzas province the brigade includes a visit to the Sierra del Rosario Ecovida environmental research site and also to the San Severino Castle museum, an important monument in the UNESCO Slavery Route. The group will also visit fishing and forestry enterprises, a local community in transformation and the Korimakao community arts project. In Havana the group will meet representatives of the lawyers association to learn about the new national Family Code being developed.

The group also expect to meet representatives of mass organisations such as representatives of the Womens Federation, Trade Unionists, young communists, small farmers association, veterans of the revolutionary war and local artists.
With free time to explore the capital and lots of opportunities to soak up the culture, with dance classes and live music. Not forgetting some time at amazing beaches.

The brigade is based at an international centre 25 miles outside of Havana. The accommodation is basic, sharing up to 4 people per room. This brigade also includes a 4 day trip to Matanzas province – including a visit to the historical site of Playa Girón (Bay of Pigs)

 

A fantastic programme of trips, visits and discussion with Cuban people from politics, sports, the arts, industry as well as voluntary work and plenty of social activities will ensure that you make the most of this once-in-a-lifetime journey.

Work alongside Cuban farmers as well as participate in a full programme of talks, meetings with representatives of mass organisations and visits to community and cultural projects, with time to relax at night with a cool Mojito. Mostly based near Havana but also visit to other parts of during these brigades.

Cost includes programme of talks, events and visits, accommodation, transport, food and preparation pack in advance of departure. You need to organise your own international flights but we can assist with this.
