Regular opportunities to volunteer and deliver humanitarian aid on CSC's May Day, Summer and Winter brigades
CSC’s Solidarity Brigades offer the opportunity to experience Cuba beyond the tourist trail, learn directly from its people and put international solidarity into practice.
At a time when intensified US economic warfare is causing severe hardship and attempting to isolate the island, travelling to Cuba is itself an act of solidarity.

All CSC Solidarity Brigade members receive a full advance briefing, practical guidance and support from a designated CSC representative. You will return with new friendships, first-hand knowledge and opportunities to continue campaigning through CSC’s national campaigns and network of local groups.

There are usually three brigades a year, the May Day Brigade in April/May, and summer and winter brigades in July/August and November/December.

CSC’s Solidarity Brigades
CSC has worked in solidarity with Cuba for more than 60 years. Our longstanding relationships with Cuban trade unions, community organisations and national institutions give participants an insight into people, places and experiences that ordinary visitors rarely encounter.
Visits will include health and education centres where you can deliver humanitarian aid. CSC will provide you with a list of items to take, and you are encouraged to fundraise and collect supplies ahead of your trip to raise awareness of the current shortages facing the Cuban people. CSC will help publicise any fundraising that you do. When you return, you can remain involved through CSC’s network of local groups, trade unions and national campaigns.
You will not simply learn about solidarity – you will put it into practice.
The programme
The final programme varies, but activities usually include:
- Meetings with Cuban trade unionists, community organisations and activists
- Visits to workplaces, neighbourhood projects and social institutions
- Practical solidarity work, including agricultural work on cooperative farms
- Seminars and discussions about Cuban society, the Revolution and the impact of the US blockade
- Visits to places of historical, political and cultural significance
- International events with volunteers and activists from around the world
- Opportunities to bring or deliver medical aid and other essential supplies
- Participation in Cuba’s May Day or other national celebrations and conferences depending at which time of year you visit.
- Time to experience Cuba’s culture and meet people from different walks of life
Accommodation and cost
The brigade is based at an international camp approximately 45 kilometres from Havana in shared dormitory accomodation, with some days based in a shared room in a provincial hotel. Meals are provided on site.
The cost includes:
- All accommodation
- Three meals a day
- Transport and translation within the official programme
- A full programme of visits, meetings and activities
- Cuban visa
- CSC T-shirt
- Preparation pack and advance briefing
- Support from a designated CSC representative before and during the brigade
- A year's membership of CSC including CubaSi magazine four times a year
Apart from the May Day Brigade where we have block booked flights for the group in advance, participants on the Summer and Winter brigades must arrange their own travel to Cuba. Participants on all brigades must also provide their own travel insurance. CSC can provide advice and assistance with flight and travel insurance options.
Brigades are open to everyone aged 18 or over who wants to show solidarity with Cuba.

Travelling to Cuba at this time has real political significance. US policy seeks not only to restrict Cuba’s access to fuel, food, medicines and finance, but also to isolate its people from the rest of the world.
By going to Cuba, listening to its people and sharing what you learn on your return, you help challenge the misinformation and isolation surrounding the country.

Over 12-14 nights, you will join volunteers from Britain and around the world for a packed programme of political, cultural and practical activities.
