NEU Statement on the Open University’s change of policy relating to Cuban students

The National Education Union – NUT Section welcomes the changed position of the Open
University to allow the admission of Cuban students and others affected by US sanctions. The
previous ban was not only illegal but unfair, restricting students solely on the basis of their
nationality. I am pleased that the NEU – NUT Section lent its voice to the campaign for these
students and am proud to have been part of this important change in policy. We wish all
students who are now able to receive educational services from the OU the successful future
they deserve.
