Winter Solidarity Brigade

One hundred years after the birth of Cuba’s revolutionary leader Fidel Castro, and taking place during the tenth anniversary of his death, the Winter Solidarity Brigade will explore his legacy and visit sites where the Cuban Revolution was planned and fought including Santa Clara in central Cuba, and the eastern province of Santiago de Cuba, known as the cradle of the Revolution.

The programme will include meetings with local community leaders and health service workers, visits to social projects and historical sites, voluntary work sessions in agriculture and at social projects outside Havana, plus talks on the economy and current challenges of the US blockade, as well as dance classes and film screenings.
Cost and accommodation
The brigade is based at the international brigade camp, 45km from Havana in Artemisa. Seven nights are spent here in basic dormitory accommodation (4-6 people sharing), one night in Santa Clara, and six nights in Santiago de Cuba in shared hotel rooms (2-3 people).
The cost of the Winter Solidarity Brigade is £800 which includes:
- All accommodation
- Three meals a day
- Transport and translation within the official programme
- A full programme of visits, meetings and activities
- Cuban visa
- CSC T-shirt
- Preparation pack and advance briefing
- Support from a designated CSC representative before and during the brigade
- A year's membership of CSC including CubaSi magazine four times a year
Participants must arrange their own flights and travel insurance. CSC can provide advice and assistance with flight and travel insurance options.

This brigade gives a unique opportunity to see the reality of life under the inhumane US blockade, and learn about the country’s achievements now under threat.
Participants will be encouraged to take material aid and fundraise as part of CSC’s Cuba Vive medical aid appeal. CSC will provide details of what medical and educational items are needed and support for fundraising and collecting aid.
