On the last day of the summit, the organisation reaffirmed their unanimous rejection of the genocidal policy against Cuba.
The 28th African Union Summit, held in the Ethiopian capital of Addis Ababa, approved a resolution Wednesday demanding an end to the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States on Cuba for more than half a century.
On the last day of the event, heads of state of the continental organisation reaffirmed their unanimous rejection of the genocidal policy against the island.
The resolution also welcomed the progress made between the governments of the Cuba and the U.S. toward improving their bilateral relations and creating mutually beneficial ties.
Regarding U.S. policy toward the island, the text calls on President Donald Trump to consider the positive results achieved in bilateral relations over recent years.
Meanwhile, speaking during the plenary session held Jan. 30, President of the AU Commission Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma demanded an end to the blockade as well as the return to Cuba of the territory illegally occupied, against the will of the Cuban people and government, by the U.S. Naval Base in Guantanamo.
However, Trump's pick for secretary of state, former ExxonMobil chief executive Rex Tillerson said at his confirmation hearing that he would reverse, or comprehensively review, former President Barack Obama’s executive orders and concessions on Cuba.
