The Cuba Solidarity Campaign (CSC) marched in London alongside the Stop Trump Coalition to oppose the state visit of Donald Trump on 17 September.

The coalition – made up of more than 50 national unions, campaigning organisations and NGOs – mobilised thousands to take part in the demonstration, ending in a rally at Parliament Square. CSC staff, volunteers and supporters carried Cuban flags and banners calling for an end to the blockade and for Cuba to be removed from the US ‘State Sponsors of Terrorism’ list.

Across both of his presidential terms Trump has introduced inhumane policies designed to strangle Cuba’s economy, inflict immense suffering on the Cuban people, and undermine its sovereignty.

CSC chair Kevin Courtney addressed the crowd at Portland Place before the march set off, informing them of the numerous ways in which Trump’s policies have damaged the Cuban economy in recent months: from threatening third countries who rely on Cuban international medical brigades to returning Cuba to the SSOT list, restricting remittances, and damaging the tourism industry. “Viva Cuba! Down with Trump! Support the Cuban people!” he concluded.

The Cuban embassy expressed its gratitude across its social media channels. “The images from the demonstration show the unwavering support of the British people for Cuba's sovereignty and their demand for the end of the unjust policies that have long affected our nation. This powerful display of solidarity highlights the strong and enduring friendship between our peoples.

“We are inspired by your commitment to justice and your call to remove Cuba from the ‘State Sponsors of Terrorism’ list. Your voices, alongside those of many around the world, are essential in the fight for a more just and humane international order.Thank you for standing with us. Your solidarity is not taken for granted.” Cuba’s national television news also carried a report of the march.
